CMS telehealth place-of-service codes
Telehealth claims turn on which place-of-service code is used. POS 02 covers telehealth provided somewhere other than the patient's home; POS 10 covers telehealth provided in the patient's home, and the two are reimbursed differently. This reference explains when each applies and the documentation that has to support the choice.

Used when the originating site is not the patient's residence: a clinic, a facility, or another originating site. Reimbursement generally follows the facility rate.
POS 10 — telehealth in the patient's home
Used when the patient is located in their home at the time of the service. Reimbursement generally follows the non-facility rate, which is why the distinction is worth getting right.
What has to be documented
The patient's physical location at the time of service, the modality used, and the practitioner's location. The place-of-service code has to match what the record actually says.
